John Ramsay is not in PEI Baptismal records - writing about the family history in a letter to his niece, John's uncle James said Archibald Ramsay and Helen Stewart had a son John.

The John Ramsay from Prince Edward Island who married Mary Murray and lived in New York State, and then in Missouri, named his first daughter Ellen, and his first son Archibald. Born between 1839 and 1845, he is a good fit for this family. He married Mary Murray from Ireland, around 1870.

On the US 1880 census, John Ramsey or Ramsay, was living with his family in West Troy, Albany, New York. He said he was born on Prince Edward Island on this census; after that he said Maine. Although his name was Ramsey on most census records, he gave the name Ramsay on his wife's death certificate.

On census records, he said his parents were born in Scotland. In 1900, John said he was born in Maine, March 1841 and married around 1870. Children at home with John and Mary were Archibald 23, Ellen 28, Mamie 22, Malcolm 20 and Georgiana age 16. He was a carpenter, both parents born Scotland.

John died in St. Louis, Missouri on February 13 1932. On his death record, his daughter Mary said he was born March 10 1839, father Charles from Rhode Island. I believe John must have spoken to his children about his ancestor, Col. Charles Stewart, or his brother Charles Stewart Ramsay, leading to this incorrect entry.

Death notice names children: Archibald, Mamie, Georgianna and John.
