NO PROOF THAT HE BELONGS WITH THIS FAMILY

There were no baptismal records for an Angus Ramsay in the PEI Baptismal Index. Angus was a Ramsay family name, so one might have expected to find an Angus in any branch of this family. He might belong to one of the Donald Ramsay families in Prince County, possibly Donald Ramsay and Mary Cannon, but this Angus would also fit with Neil Ramsay and Catherine, or John Ramsay and Margaret Penman.

Because Angus named a daughter Catherine and a son Neil, I am placing him in that branch of the Ramsay family - but keep in mind that he could belong to one of the other families mentioned above. There was a farm under the name Angus Ramsay in Lot 14, near where I believe Neil Ramsay settled.

When Angus married Mary Strahorn in June 1840, they were both residents of Bathurst, New Brunswick. A Neil Ramsay was a witness at their marriage.

Since I don't know the names of Mary's parents, if the couple followed traditional naming practices, his father could be Donald - or perhaps Neil.

In the 1861 census, in Bathurst, Angus was a lumberman.

In 1871, Angus 60 and Mary 40 had Donald, Catherine, Elizabeth, Mary and a Neal - but this Neal was age 8. Mistake, or a second son with this name?

In 1881, living with Angus 70 and Mary 57 were Angus, age 16 and Sidney, age 9. In the next census, Sidney was a grandson.

The age is wrong, but the name and location fit.

Not sure where to place Sidney. He said his parents were Angus and Mary when he married Jane Smith in 1897.
