Local histories and census records identify Artemis as the son of James and Flora (Campbell) Ramsay, who probably both died when their children were young.
"This property was owned in the early 1820's by Donald Campbell, who lived with his sisters Marian and Mary. At Donald's death the farm went to his nephew Artemas Ramsay. Mr. Ramsay married Margaret Thompson.
They had two sons Claude and Glen. The farm was passed on to the younger son Glen, who married Marion MacKay. Glen farmed and inspected potatoes. In 19^3 he sold the farm to his nephew, Walter Ramsay and
moved to Charlottetown where he continued to work as a potato inspector. Walter married Alda MacLaurin (deceased)." History of Belmont, Lot 16
Donald, Mary and Marion Campbell were in Lot 16 in the 1881 census. With them were Artemis (25) and Mary Jane (16) Campbell, most likely Artemis and Mary Jane Ramsay, children of their deceased sister Flora, who married James Ramsay.
Artemis was living with his unmarried aunts and uncle in 1891. He married Margaret Thompson later that year.
According to "Lot 16 United Church and its People", Michael Ramsay and Nancy Smith were the grandparents of Artemus Ramsay (m. Margaret Thompson) of Belmont and Edmund Watson Ramsay (m. Mary Jane Jennie Lockhart) of Southwest, placing James in this family. Margaret, Artemus' wife, died at an early age leaving two young sons, Claude and Glen, who were brought up by their father, who never remarried.
Marion Ramsay, born 1831, was an aunt living with Artemis and his family in 1901.
Artemis was survived by his two sons, and sister Mrs. J. D. Flanders (Mary Jane), in the United States and three brothers, Edward Ramsay of South West Lot 16, and Alexander and Pyramenas in Denver, Col.,
