Percy-The-Survivalist - After 10 years of struggling to run the farm with the help of his half brother Frank, Percy married Irene Ellis. They were the first couple to be married in the O'Leary United Church. They lived in the original two storey home and worked hard to overcome the financial pressures
of the Great Depression. I n spite of the fact t h a t Percy worked in the lumber woods in Maine to bolster the family's finances, the farm had to be mortgaged and was in grave danger of being sold. Irene came to the rescue by raising and selling turkeys to cover the interest payments which were in default. Luckily the farm slowly returned to its productive state and was never in jeopardy again. Of Percy and Irene's eight children, three boys: Ellis, Samuel and Kenneth assisted with work on the farm. W h e n
two of the boys moved off the original farm, Kenneth remained to work with his father to maintain the family business.
