My Family Tree

Nathaniel was born in 1867 in Prince Edward Island, the youngest son of Hugh McArthur and Susanna Dyment. He married ELIZA WHALEN 18 May 1898. Eliza was born 20 October 1876 in O'Leary, PEI, the daughter of Pat Whalen and Kathy Clemmings and died 13 August 1928 in Amherst, Nova Scotia (her death certificate gave her birth date as February 1879, and her age as 49; her father's name was Patrick but her mother's name was difficult to read).

In the 1911 census, Susan Dyment McArthur is living with the family. Children were: Mildred, Blanch, Maggie, Wilfred, Laura, Edgar, Nelson, Stanley, and Raymond.

Nathanial occasionally went to the States to look for work. He was described on one form as being 5 ft 9 in, with brown hair and blue eyes.

Nathaniel and Eliza had been living in Amherst, Nova Scotia for 13 years at the time of Eliza's death. It looks like they left PEI soon after Susan Dyment McArthur's death.

Nathaniel died at the age of 90 in Saint John New Brunswick. His occupation had been house painter. His death certificate gave his mother's name as Susan Ashton Diamond, and father as Hugh McArthur.
