Notes

Note

Harriet Mae was not in the PEI Baptismal Index, but she was a daughter in the household of Samuel and Catherine (Cassie) Dyment in the 1891 census. There was a record in the 1900 US census for a Harriet M. Dyment, b. February 1882, working as a domestic servant in the household of John M Hartwell in Littleton, Massachusetts. Harriet was back on the Island, living at home with her father and step-mother, in the 1901 Canadian census. Later, in the 1930 US census, she gave her date of immigration as 1899.

Hattie was not living with her father and step-mother after 1901, according to subsequent census records.

Harriet Mae Dyment, daughter of Samuel and Catherine, married George Farnsworthy Moody in New York State in 1914. George was living alone in lodgings in the 1920 US census in Kansas city, Missouri, but they were together for the next census in 1930. Hattie M. Moody said in the 1930 US census that she was born in Canada in 1887. She was living with her husband in Kansas City; they had no children.

Her husband George was a scenery artist or church decorator/painter for churches and Masonic temples, and noted on one record that his place of work was "on the road". This may be why I have been able to find him in the 1940 US census, but not Harriet Mae. He gave his status as married in the 1940s, but there was no trace of Hattie.

According to an item from the Kansas City Star of July 28 1930, Hattie, or Mrs. Mae Moody, filed a suit for divorce in Independence, Kansas from George F. Moody, an artist with the Great Western State Equipment Company. "In her petition, Mrs. Moody alleges cruelty..." The article noted that they had no children. Hattie's address was 214 Brush Creek Blvd, which is still considered to be a prestigious location in the city, according to a local librarian.

George moved to Washington State, where his sister and brother were living. He died in Spokane, Washington in 1944; his death record said he was married, and that his wife's name was Mae. This gives the impression that Hattie Mae was alive in 1944. However, his death notice only named his sister.

There was a social security claim under Harriet's name in 1938, but there was no person in Kansas city directories or the online Missouri death records who is definitely her. And although Mae Moodie was a common name, records found under that name were definitely not her. Harriet Mae Moody was living at 3132 Campbell St., Kansas City, Missouri when she filled out the form - she may have gone back to using the name Dyment.

In 1943, George filed for a divorce in Washington State, citing Hattie's love of bridge was losing too much money, and her desertion when she left him.

When Hattie Mae's brother died in 1951 on Prince Edward Island, his obituary said that he was the last surviving member of the family of Samuel and Catherine. Therefore, I have assumed that Hattie May died before 1951.

But a Harriett M. Moody died in Washington State" MOODY HARRIETT M 1973 - might not be her.
