My Family Tree

Jane Sophie Paynter was born 9 February 1857 in Long River, the daughter of William Paynter and Matilda Mann. Jane Sophie is identified as the daughter of William Paynter and May Ann in the PEI Baptism Index, which sounds like she would be the daughter of William Paynter and Mary Ann Hacker. This could be an error, or possibly, May Ann is actually Matilda. However, there is no female child of this age in the other William Paynter's 1861 census record, but she does fit in William and Matilda's household. Most of William and Matilda's children were born in Long River, and William and Mary Ann's in New London. In family obituaries, Sophia was identified as a sister.

On balance, I've placed Jane Sophia with Matilda and William Paynter's family, since she is in the census records, as well as the History of Irishtown/Burlington, with that family.

Sophia married John Henry Pidgeon, from French River and had two daughters, Annie Ella Maud in 1890 and Millie Jane in 1902.
In the 1921 census, they were living in French River/Park Corner:

Sophie died in French River on Nov 18 1936 after a lingering illness in the 78th year of her age. She leaves to mourn her sorrowing husband and one daughter, Millie (mrs. Elmer Parsons), who so tenderly nursed and cared for her during her trying illness, also two little grand-daughters, Jean and Lottie Parsons, and two brothers and two sisters: Bernard, Herbert, Rosella and Eva of Lond River. Sophie was buried beside the daughter who had died 23 years earlier.
