"Village blacksmith for over 45 years"

Records of Conveyances on microfilm at the Provincial Archives in Charlottetown show a Conveyance dated 2 November 1007, Registered 8 May 1908, between John A. McDougald of Tyne Valley, Blacksmith, and Caroline McDougald his wife, and Adelinda E. Lidstone of Tyne Valley, wife of Charles I. Lidstone. The description of the property shows it to be where the Lidstone store was located. A map of Tyne Valley at the archives, revised to October, 1910 has a Gen'I Store marked on that location. John A. McDougald's blacksmith shop is remembered by some residents, as being a short distance up the hill from the Lidstone store.

"Honest John" In the 1891 census, their name was transcribed as McDugold.

Parents from his death record were Alexander McDougall and Hannah Ellis. Wilfred McDougall, his son, was the informant. "Mr John Archibald mcDougall of Tyne Valley passed away suddenly at his home on Saturday evening. the deceased who was 72 years of age had finished his day's work and had been into the store, afterways attending to his foxes. On returning home he sat down to enjoy the evening paper when he quietly passed away. Mr. Mcdougall was well known in tyne valley and surrounding district. He came to Tyne Valley about eighteen years of age and learnt his trade of blacksmithing with the late Edward Ramsay. He attained his 72nd birthday on october 27. He was a very reliable man in business and highly esteemed for his many fine qualities. He leaves to mourn his widow, form. Miss Carrie Cameron of Tyne Valley and one daughter Mrs. Blanche Dystant of Ellerslie and one son Wilfred, a well known farmer and cheesemaker in Tyne Valley..." Guardian 1930
