My Family Tree

There were two David Sullivans born around 1824 and baptized in Richmond Parish. One was the son of David Sullivan Sr. and Peggy Campbell; the other was the son of Thomas Sullivan and Ann Ramsay.

David Sullivan from Lot 12 married Joyce Betts in 1861. Dugald Sullivan and James Sullivan were witnesses. If these were David's brothers, then he belongs with the family of David and Peggy, which is where I have placed him. (not everyone agrees with this!)

Joyce and David had no children living with them in the 1881 census, Lot 12. Joyce died in 1888 at age 59. David's name was not on her gravestone, but it's possible he was buried beside her.

According to the Betts family tree on the Island Register, Joyce had a daughter Lavenia before her marriage to David.

In the 1901 census, there was a David Sullivan, born 28 September 1824 in Lot 13 married to 19 year old Sophie. This, however,is more likely to be the other David Sullivan who was also a widower, and who was born the same year. That David was in Lot 13 in 1891 and 1881. Sophia Sullivan, age 30 and a widow, was living with her parents Francis and Sarah Walfield in the 1911 census.

I was unable to find this David in the 1891 census of Lot 12 - he was no longer listed in the households between Edward England and Robert Stewart, where he had been 10 years earlier.
