My Family Tree

The John McArthur who went to New Brunswick and married Matilda Rogers is sometimes placed with the family of "William John" Mcarthur, for whom no records can be found. Another family tree places him with the family of John McArthur and Christina McNevin from West River, born 1814. John and his wife, however, did not name any of their children John or Christina. John could fit in the family of Alexander and Catherine (McKay), or might even be the son of Neil and Bridget McArthur named John, mentioned by the landlord Seymour in his diary. I'm placing him with Malcolm and Ann.

On the 1891 census, John indicated on his census record that both of his parents were born on Prince Edward Island. He gave dates of birth ranging from 1806 to 1813 on census records. His gravestone said 1807-1899, and the death record - which had no family information - said he died at age 92, from paralysis.

He married Matilda Rogers in 1839.

John and Matilda "McAurthur" were in Newcastle in 1861. Their children were Lydia, 18; Alexander, 17; William, 15; Mary, 10; Robert, 5 and Elizabeth, age 2.

In 1871, John, age 60 was in Chatham with Matilda and three children: Mary, 20; Robert, 14 and William Neil, age 7. The next household was William and Margart Smyth, probably their daughter.
