Peter was the son of Alexander McDougall and Nancy McLean.

A number of Peter and Elizabeth's children were baptized in the St. James Anglican Church in Port Hill. Some of the records give the child's birthplace as "Canada, Lot 13", and since Peter's land, in the 1880 Meacham's Atlas, is shown to straddle the Canada Road in Lot 13 this probably means Canada Rd, not Canada the country. According to a book of PEI place names, "Canada Settlement: Former name of the settlement between Tyne Valley and Northam, Lot 13. Noted as early as 1854, is still used for the road between the same two communities."

The 1861 census showed nine people in the household of Peter McDougald, carpenter, Lot 12: 1 boy under 5, 2 between 6-15. 2 girls under 5, 2 girls between 6-15, one married couple.

There were 14 children in the PEI Baptismal Index for this couple. On early baptismal records, Peter was a shipwright or ship carpenter; on later records, he was a farmer.

In 1881, Peter was a widower. Living at home were George Swabey(26), John Cranmore (24), Isabel (19), Eliza Agnes (16), Robert Henry (14), Margaret Laura (12), Peter Lewis (10), Neil Ramsay (8), Ida Maud (6). In this census, his occupation was caulker and plasterer.

In the 1891 census, the two youngest children, Neil Russell and Ida Maud were living with their sister Louisa and John Pawe/Paugh. By that date, several of Peter and Elizabeth's children were married, or had disappeared from records. I was unable to find Peter in the 1891 or 1901 census records.

Port Hill Church of England records note that Peter McDougald of Tyne Valley died April 3 1911 aged 88 years and was buried in St. James' Church yard.
