Son of Neil Ramsay (Lot 18) and Betsy McCallum. Married Jennie Craig.

John and his wife Jennie were in Peshtigo, Oconto Wisconsin in the 1870 US census with children Margaret, Robert, Mary, John, James, and William. There was also Elizabeth, age 64, living with the family in 1870, and in 1880 - probably his mother. All of the children were born on the Island except for William, age 3, who was born in Michigan.

The Biography of City Residents Listed In History Book of 1883 says that he left the Island in 1864, and stopped in Maine and Michigan on his way to Wisconsin, where he settled in 1870.
