According to the History of the Ellis Family, James and Agnes Edith had one son, Roy. However, there was no son was recorded in Massachusetts birth or death records. After the death of his first wife, James remarried.

On the 1900 US census, his mother Margaret said she had had 11 children, of whom 8 were living. Ten years later, she said 11 children, 7 living, so James died between 1907 and 1908, if Cora told the truth about being a widow when she remarried, and definitely by 1910.
When she died in 1912, his mother's obituary only named one son, Frank.

James was a carpenter when Lester was born, and a foreman when Edith Agnes was born, in Somerville, Mass.

Can't find James in Mass. death records, or newspaper indexes. Cora remarried in 1908, saying she was a widow.

There were two Railroad Employment Records for James Harry Ramsay, both born July 17, 1866 in the Sacremento Branch of the California railroads. On one, Jas. H Ramsay, born July 17 1867, was a car builder from 1902-1905, when he quit. The second card says he was employed in 1906, and dropped in 1907. His address on these forms was Oak Park, which was also where his brother in law William Havelock Dyment was living, and where William's brother died in 1906. William Dyment was employed by the same branch of the railway, and it looks like James went out west with his sister and brother in law. He may have died in California, but unlike William's brother Hudson there was no entry in the California death index or the local newspaper.
