Peter McDougall was an executor of his father Duncan's will - he was living in Lot 5 at that time. He was in Lot 7 at the time of his marriage to Harriet.

Peter's wife was Harriet Warwell, a spinster. Witnesses at their marriage were Barbara McDougall, Margaret (McDougall) Milligan and Alex Milligan. Harriet was the daughter of Marion McArthur, the second wife of James Ellis. Peter and Harriet's children said their mother's name was Harriet or Hattie Ellis on official records.

There were no entries in the PEI Baptismal Index for this family.

Peter was a cooper. The family was in New Brunswick by the time of the 1871 census; their son James H. was born there in 1871. The older children had been born in PEI.

1871 in New Brunswick: Perter Mcdougall 38, Henriette Mcdougall 33, Allan F Mcdougall (Allan Fraser) 15, Cornelius Mcdougall 14 (Bruce Cornelius), William G Mcdougall 12, Mary Jane Mcdougall (Jennie) 10
John McDougall 8. female Mcdougall 6 , Elizabeth Mcdougall 4, Alexander Mcdougall 2. James H Mcdougall 2 months. The daughter "Allien" could be Hannah Mabel. If Ellen and Elizabeth were twins, as they seem to be in the next census, it looks like one was left out by accident.

The names and ages are close, but don't match exactly in the next census, in 1881: Allen 24y; Bruce 22y; William 20y; Jennie 19y; John 17y; Hannah 15y (this must be Hannah Mabel); Ellen 12y; Elizabeth 12y; Alexander 10y; Milles [Willis] 8y; Nelson 6y;and Bismark 4y.

In 1891: Peter Mcdougall 62, Harriett Mcdougall 55, Alexander Mcdougall 21, Nelson Mcdougall 16, Bramark [Bismark] Mcdougall 14, Ellen Mcdougall 22.

By the time of the 1911 census, only Alex, Bismark and Ellen were at home.

According to the entry for son Bruce in the Canadian Biographical Dictionary, "two sisters and two brothers joined the exodus to New England and another brother settled in Saskatchewan." The history of Hamilton stated that the couple's children were Fraser, Bruce, William, Mary Jane, John, Ellen, Elizabeth Marion, Alexander, Nelson, Willis, Mabel and Bismark.

Peter McDougall, an aged resident of Moncton, passed away this morning at his residence on High Street after an illness extending over a period of one year. Previous to that time he had not been feeling well and his activities were limed to short walks in the vicinity of his home. The deceased was born at Malpeque PEI on the 7th of March 1872 and was in his 88th year at the time of his death which was due to partial paralysis which his advanced age rendered him powerless to resist. Mr McDougall is survived by 3 daughter and 6 sons. The daughters are Mrs Stone of Newton[ Mabel], Mass; Mrs Estabrooks [Elizabeth] and Nellie at home. The sons are John and William of Everett, Mass; Nelson of Moosejaw, Alta; Alexander, Fraser and Bismark Bismark of this city. He is also survived by two sisters and one brother. The sisters are Mrs Robert England of Springfield, PEI; Mrs Alex Campbell of Bass River, Kent Co, NB. The brother is Rev Archie McDougall of New Jersey. Moncton Transcript May 30 1914
